The province has released an independent report on the state of BC’s grizzly bear management and conservation.
The report by three grizzly wildlife biologists says grizzlies in the province are well-managed, and the authors are confident that there are adequate safeguards to ensure a sustainable harvest.
The report does have 51 recommendations, which includes calls for more resources directed towards harvest management, increased opportunities for public consultation, and better habitat monitoring.
The last independent review of the province’s grizzly bear harvest management procedures was in 2003.
