A dictionary author and Indigenous language expert is being honoured in the valley today.
79 year-old Elizabeth Phillips, who is one of the few remaining fluent speakers of the Sto:lo language, will receive an honorary doctor of letters degree from the University of the Fraser Valley.
The reward highlights here efforts to translate and restore the language as well as teach it to others.
Phillips is now more confident than ever that her language will survive.
