Indigenous leaders from Canada and U.S. to talk pipelines

First Nations leaders from across Canada, and their counterparts from the United States, hold simultaneous meetings today in Vancouver and Montreal to discuss oil pipelines.

The Kinder Morgan and Northern Gateway projects in BC will be the focus of the BC meeting, which takes place at 10 a.m. at the Musqueam Community Centre in southwest Vancouver.

The announcement comes just a day after opponents of Kinder Morgan’s plans to expand the Trans-Mountain pipelines across southern BC met in Burnaby to discuss ways to ramp up the final fight against the project.

The National Energy Board has given the nod to the multi-billion dollar expansion, as long as Kinder Morgan meets 157 conditions, and a federal decision is expected by the end of the year.
