Indigenous Service Minister Jane Philpott has called for an emergency meeting early next year regarding Aboriginal Child Welfare.
Philpott says the rate at which Canada is apprehending Indigenous kids is among the highest in the world.
“There is no cohesive plan to examine how to get children back into Indigenous communities,” Philpott says, suggesting it is crucial to get First Nations, Metis, and Inuit leaders, child and family services groups together.

The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society and the Assembly of First Nations have been battling for about a decade against the underfunding on child welfare services for First Nations children.
