The BC Coroners Service has announced an inquest into the deaths of a Prince Rupert mother and her autistic son.
Angela Robinson, age 39, and 16 year-old Robert were found dead in their home April 3rd, 2014 in what RCMP determined was a murder-suicide.
The investigation revealed that Angela took her son’s life before killing herself. Family and friends have said she was struggling to find help caring for Robert who was severely autistic and prone to violent episodes.
The case has highlighted the struggles faced by parents trying to access services for their autistic children in rural and remote regions.
Presiding coroner Michael Egilson and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding the deaths. The jury can make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
A date and place for the inquest has not yet been announced.
