Interior Health shuts down facilities in Williams Lake, evacuates majority of Clearwater hospital

Interior Health has closed down its facilities and services in Williams Lake due to the city-wide wildfire evacuation, including Cariboo Memorial Hospital.

The health authority had previously transferred acute care patients from Cariboo Memorial, Deni House residential care facility, and clients at Williams Lake Seniors Village

In addition to the hospital in Williams Lake, a number of other facilities in the  Cariboo-Chilcotin are closed due to wildfire activity:

  • Alexis Creek Health Centre
  • West Chilcotin Health Centre in Tatla Lake
  • 100 Mile District General Hospital

Interior Health is also evacuating the majority of its facility in Clearwater due to an evacuation alert related to nearby wildfire activity.

The evacuation of Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital is for hospital patients, and individuals residing in Forest View Place, a residential care facility located on the site.

The emergency room at the Clearwater hospital remains open.
