Former Conservative party MP and federal cabinet minister James Moore has been chosen as UNBC’s next chancellor.
Moore is the first UNBC Chancellor who also is also a school alumni.
He graduated from UNBC in 2001 with a degree in political science.
Moore says it’s an incredible honour to be named Chancellor, and says the school has come a long way in 25 years.
He remembers there wasn’t even bus service to the school on weekends when he was a student.
Despite being a prominent member of the Stephen Harper’s government, he doesn’t believe his political past will bring any baggage to the position.
He notes many former politicans have gone on to leadership positions at universities.
Moore says being the head of a university is as far as he’s going to go in terms of public leadership positions.
He’ll be sworn in at the convocation ceremony in Prince George on May 27, 2016.
