Kispiox Valley wildfires growing, no threat to Kispiox at this time

The BC Wildfire Service says two fires in the Kispiox Valley continue to grow, causing more smoke in the region and the closure of a forestry road.

The 600 hectare Pope Forest Service Road Fire, 25 kilometres northwest of Kispiox and 35 kilometres northwest of Hazelton has forced a what officials are calling a tactical closure of the Pope FSR until further notice.

There are currently 38 firefighters and five pieces of heavy equipment working on the fire and officials say it is not threatening Kispiox at this time.

The Cutoff Mountain fire is located about 35 kilometres northwest of Kispiox and has grown to 2000 hectares.  Wildfire officials say large amounts of smoke will be visible from the fire because of plenty of unburned fuel within containment lines.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Cutoff Mountain fire is being monitored for now.

Residents can find emergency preparedness information at the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine website: http://www.rdks.bc.ca.
