Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth has released an open letter stating his support for the Coastal GasLink LNG pipeline.
That pipeline will supply LNG Canada’s terminal in Kitimat if built.
In the letter, Germuth says Kitimat is pro-industry, but not at all costs.
He adds that the pipeline will bring economic benefits and stability not only to Kitimat, but also all of northern BC.
He also notes that Coastal GasLink has worked with local stakeholders to minimize disruptions and its environmental impact.
Earlier this month, Kitimat Council approved a letter of support for Coastal GasLink, saying “Kitimat has long been a site for global-scale industrial production,” and that they “continue to welcome international opportunity.”
