The BC government is providing money to two northwest BC First Nations to explore the potential for clean energy opportunities.
The Kitsumkalum First Nation near Terrace will receive $40,000 to look at the possibility of building a 15 megawatt wood-burning biomass plant on its reserve lands.
The Wet’suwet’en First Nation near Burns Lake will get $30,000 to develop a community energy plan.
The plan will study the community’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions with an eye to reduce energy consumption. The process will also explore whether clean energy projects and related jobs and revenue are viable.
Funding for both projects comes through the First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund.
