A Vancouver couple is celebrating an unexpected surprise after giving birth on Labour Day.
Chelsea Azak went into labour, appropriately, on Labour Day.
While it’s normal that most expectant mothers don’t know when they’ll go into labour, Chelsea didn’t know she was pregnant.
She says she woke up early in the morning with back pains.
Chelsea says it wasn’t too long afterwards that she realized something else was happening.
Fortunately, Karl Smith, her boyfriend, was nearby.
They say their families were in disbelief but are now celebrating the new family addition.
The couple has three sons, and Karl jokes that he feels sorry for Selena’s first boyfriend since he’ll have to deal with three older brothers.
The couple has roots in the north, Chelsea is Nisga’a and grew up in Gitwinksihlkw and Terrace.
Karl is Nisga’a, Tsimshian and Haida and grew up partly in Prince Rupert.
They say they’ll be making a trip up north around Christmas to introduce Selena to the whole family.
