The BC Transportation Ministry says a landslide near Fort St. John could take days to stabilize.
The Peace River Regional District issued evacuation orders Sunday after the slow-moving landslide caused massive cracks in the Old Fort Road.
There is no immediate risk to the residents of about three dozen homes in Old Fort but, the slide has cut access to the community.
Those not affected by the evacuation orders are being advised to stay put while road crews work on an access plan.
The slide is about a kilometre away from the east entrance to the Site C hydro dam worksite, but BC Hydro says there is no evidence that it is connected to Site C or work on the massive project.
