Earlier this week, two boats collided off Lelu Island by the Flora Bank.
A member of the Lelu Island camp that opposes the Petronas-backed Pacific NorthWest LNG project says he was heading back towards the island on his skiff when he saw another boat start heading towards him.
The camp member says he was knocked over and suffered some bruising, adding the other boat left after he stood up.
Spencer Sproule of Pacific NorthWest LNG released the following statement:
I can confirm that a marine incident occurred on January 19th. Marine safety and the health of our workers is a top priority for PNW LNG. As such, video footage of the incident was proactively provided by Pacific NorthWest LNG to the Prince Rupert RCMP. Further comment would be inappropriate as we have referred this matter to the Prince Rupert RCMP.
It’s unknown if there’s an open investigation at this time as the Prince Rupert RCMP have have yet to respond to requests for more information.
