The BC Wildfire Service says lightning has sparked a fire 125 kilometres southwest of Alexis Creek.
The 12-hectare blaze is burning in steep, rough terrain at the south end of Chilko Lake within Ts’il?os Provincial Park.
Wildfire crews are monitoring the fire and working with land managers to determine the best response to the flames.
Officials say wind gusts and continuing warm, dry weather may result in increased fire activity and smoke.
The wildfire danger rating is “high” to “extreme” in most of the Cariboo Fire Centre area.
Campfires are not allowed west of the Fraser River.
