LNG Canada is hoping the installation of additional modular homes can offset the impact of the LNG boom on Kitimat’s housing market.
According to Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth, the town has already seen a whirl of outside investors sweeping up real estate in the community.
In response, LNG Canada has announced plans to install enough modular units to house 45 hundred workers.
Housing firm Civeo will be contracted to install the temporary buildings in addition to a 440 person permanent camp for 440 workers within the town.
A third temporary work camp, constructed by Horizon North, will act as home to an additional thousand workers just outside of town.
Construction on the LNG terminal is expected to require roughly 75 hundred workers at its peak.
