LNG Canada has selected a First Nation-private business partnership to perform site preparation for its proposed terminal in Kitimat.
Ledcor-Haisla Limited Partnership will do grubbing, excavation, and grading in the area where the LNG Canada work camp will be located.
Haisla Chief Councillor Ellis Ross says joint ventures such as the one with Ledcor provide the Haisla with training opportunities and employment.
Ross says the contract and others like it present a chance for Haisla members who have left home to find work to come back to Kitimat for good jobs.
LNG Canada says none of the work will proceed until the necessary permits and authorizations are in place.
The partners in the proposed liquefied natural gas project plan to make a final investment decision on the facility some time late this year.
