Pacific NorthWest LNG announced that the project in Port Edward will not be moving forward.
Project partners pulled the cord on the project following a total review of the project.
The project has been underway for the past five years. Outstanding commitments from the business will be completed by September and offices in Prince Rupert and Port Edward will be closed by the end of August.
With the closure its caused quite the reaction.
MP Nathan Cullen says there will always be mixed reactions coming from both sides.
On Tuesday, Residents in Prince Rupert went to the Mariners Park last night to sing and dance after the announcement.
Lara Peterson organized the event and when she found out she was so shocked she broke out into tears of joy.
Peterson said “I was in shock. I was completely in shock. Like I said in my speech earlier, I thought it was a joke. I started to click on everything that was on the Internet and realized it was true. I burst into tears.”
While there were positive reactions, Hereditary Chief Alex Campbell thought differently.
The project was costing the province around 36 billion dollars.
