Lower Post residents told to evacuate

Wildfires burning near Lower Post have forced the evacuation of the community.

The BC Wildfire Service says the 4000 hectare Lutz Creek blaze is zero percent contained and continues to burn 5 kilometres south of the community.

The Blue River fire, pegged at 25,000 hectares, is also burning south of the community.

Crews have set up structural protection in Lower Post, located about 20 kilometres southeast of Watson Lake, Yukon and about 200 kilometres northeast of Dease Lake.

Firefighters and heavy equipment are working to build a guard around the community while air tankers have also been working on the flames.

Highway 97 remains closed in both directions from Coal River to the British Columbia -Yukon Border because of wildfires.
