Maher Terminals has announced that it will go ahead with phase 2 of the Fairview Container Terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert.
The over $200 million dollar expansion of the 7-year-old facility will increase container capacity by 500,000 TEUs or 60 per cent.
Prince Rupert Port Authority President and CEO Don Krusel says the expansion means more jobs.
Mayor Lee Brain calls it an exciting day for the city of Prince Rupert.
Construction is expected to begin immediately and should be completed by mid 2017.
The expansion is expected to employ 240 workers during the build.
