RCMP have charged a 22 year-old Alberta man with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of a two-year-old child and her father.
Superintendent Tony Hamori says Derek James Saretzky is also charged with one count of committing an indignity to a human body.
The charges come after Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette’s body was found near Blairmore, Alberta Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the body of Hailey’s father, 27-year-old Terry Blanchette, was found at his home early Monday morning.
A white van was seen speeding from the area, prompting an Amber Alert for the child.
RCMP say the two men knew each other, but have not provided details about the nature of the relationship.
Saretzky, who is from Blairmore, is expected to appear in Lethbridge court September 23rd.
