A man has died after an interaction with Terrace police yesterday.
The Independent Investigations Office says Terrace RCMP were called to Mills Memorial Hospital around 1:30pm with a report of a distressed man armed with an axe.
According to police, they attempted to negotiate with the man, but a conducted energy weapon, also known as a taser, was used.
The IIO says the man was apprehended but suffered injuries, and despite immediate medical attention, later died in hospital.
The police watchdog will be investigating to see whether police action or inaction may have led to the man’s death.
No further information about the deceased or the incident will be released at this time.
Any potential witnesses are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.
