A Victoria man learned the hard way that swimming in spring run-off waters isn’t a good idea.
At approximately 2:20pm this afternoon, a Quesnel RCMP member on bike patrol spotted a man struggling in the Fraser River.
All on-duty members responded and within 6 minutes he was safe on shore.
The 27 year old man from Victoria, had gone into the river in an attempt to reach the other side and was swept downstream.
He was attended by EHS, and was fortunate to have escaped uninjured.
The RCMP would like to remind the public that both the Fraser and the Quesnel Rivers are very fast flowing and filled with debris this time of year and even the most experienced swimmers can quickly become exhausted and begin to struggle.
