A Kitimat man is gearing up to do battle with the chilly waters of Douglas Channel in Kitimat.
Jimmy Morialis has accomplished the feat once before…30 years ago when he was 21 years old. This time around he’s aged, put on a bit of weight, but hasn’t lost any of his spirit or confidence.
He plans to swim from the marina in Kitimat Village to Hospital Beach south of Kitimat a distance of 4.6 kilometers and he plans to do it Sunday, October 15th and he will swim without the aid of a wet suit.
He says his goal is to raise money, all of which will go to the Aluminum City Telethon which is also taking place on October 15th.
Morialis says he has another reason for doing the swim. His good friend Paul Minaker died 15 years ago. Minaker accompanied Morialis on his previous swim across the Douglas Channel in a Zodiac.
You can help the cause by picking up a pledge sheet that are available in Kitimat, Terrace, Prince Rupert and Smithers. You’ll find them at local businesses.
