Man suffers significant injuries following grizzly bear attack on the Central Coast

The province’s Conservation Officer Service says it’s not yet known what caused a grizzly bear to attack and maul a forest worker on B.C.’s central coast.

Sergeant Scott Norris says the man’s injuries after yesterday’s attack are significant.

Norris says the man was on a crew working in steep forest terrain near Drainey Inlet, about 400 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.

He says March and April are when bears typically emerge from their dens after a winter of hibernation but adds that bears don’t usually see humans as prey.
