The Village of Masset on Haida Gwaii suffered a disruption in cell phone service over the weekend.
Service was cut from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening.
Andrew Merilees is the mayor of Masset, and he says Telus didn’t communicate with the community about the situation.
He says he will be following up with Telus and the province in regards to how long it took for a response.
Merilees says with so many people now going without a land-line, having no cell service for such a long time became a safety concern.
Liz Sauve is with Telus, she says it was an unusual situation for such a long response time.
She says they’re not exactly sure what led to the outage at this point as their initial priority is to get service back up, then to troubleshoot once service has been restored.
