Metis foster parents continue their fight to raise Metis foster child

The heartbroken foster parents of a BC Metis toddler aren’t giving up their fight to bring the little girl back into their care, even though the child is now preparing to join her adoptive family in Ontario.

The Metis foster parents, who have raised the nearly three-year-old girl since she was two days old, are taking their case to the Supreme Court of Canada after losing two lower court decisions in this province.

They argue the girl should be raised in a Metis environment, rather than moved to non-indigenous adoptive parents in Ontario who are already raising the girls two siblings, whom she has never met.

The toddler has already been removed from her foster parents and has spent the last several days in transition care while awaiting the trip to Ontario.
