The National Inquiry in to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls will be sending a team made up of staff from the Health, Research, Community Relations, and Legal teams to the Smithers area July 18, 2017. The teams will be in some communities to reach out to those of you who want to participate in the National Inquiry.
Following pre-inquiry intake in Smithers, the team will be coming to Terrace later this week. The team will unfortunately not be visiting Prince George during this visit because of the wildfire danger in the area.
The schedule currently has dates in three Northwestern cities:
8:30 -7pm appointments
2 Meeting Rooms Booked
These community visits will help us all to plan and prepare for Community Hearings that are part of the overall Truth Gathering Process that will take place the week of September 25, 2017, in Smithers.
Families are still battling with whether or not to have faith in the Inquiry as they announced yet another departure of a commissioner. Starting today, Aideen Nabigon will be the interim Executive Director of the National Inquiry.
Nabigon will be located in the Ottawa offices however she will travel to the Vancouver office during her first week to ensure there will be a transition of duties and corporate knowledge from Executive Director Michèle Moreau.
After the departure last week of Marilyn Poitras, the inquiry is still looking for another commissioner- and hopefully one that will see the position through until the end.
