Moose hunt ban in ?Esdilagh First Nation territory

Another First Nation community in the Cariboo Chilcotin has opened a ban on moose hunting within its territory.

The ban was announced on Monday, after they made the decision following a community meeting held on October 5th.

The Esdilagh or Alexandria First nation is located alongside the Fraser River between Williams Lake and Quesnel.

This season, Tsliqot’in National Government Chair Joe Alphonse has requested a moose hunting ban in areas impacted by the wildfires and urged his community members not to hunt as well.

Esdilagh is one of six Tislhqot’in Nation communities represented by the TNG.

Esdilagh will commence discussions with conservation officers to develop a collaborative approach to help ensure the public respects the ban, the community stated.
