RCMP were able to stop a distraught man from jumping into the Quesnel River Thursday afternoon.
Quesnel Mounties were called out to the foot bridge at 4:30 after several people reported seeing a man climb over the railing of the span.
Officers say the man was suffering severe emotional distress and were concerned that if he jumped, he wouldn’t survive the fall into the frigid, fast flowing water.
When police failed to get the man to come back over the railing, they physically restrained him. After a few tense moments of struggle, officers were able to pull the man over the railing to safety.
The man was taken to GR Baker Hospital for treatment.
Mounties say neither the officers nor the man suffered any physical injures.
