Bulkley-Valley NDP MP Nathan Cullen’s proposed bill that would prevent supertankers from sailing in north coast waters has been defeated by the government.
Cullen says the defeat of the bill means losing an opportunity to add value to Canadian resource exports rather than shipping out raw resources.
He criticizes the Harper government for shipping out raw exports at the expense of the Canadian economy and jobs.
He also says this shows BC Tory MPs rather toe the party line than look out for their home province, particularly on the environmental front.
Cullen says if the NDP form the next government, the bill would be revisited as policy.
