The extreme snowfall has prompted the Town of Smithers and Bulkley Valley Regional District to issue public advisories about snow loads on building roofs.
The regional district says recent surveys indicate that snow amounts may be approaching the limits for the minimally designed buildings constructed prior to 1993.
The RDBN is advising residents to have their buildings examined for excessive snow loads, but says hiring an experienced contractor is the safer option.
The Town of Smithers says homes built prior to 1985 or homes that are developing icicles or ice damming at the eaves may need some clearing.
The town has compiled a number of resources on its website for those with questions about snow load as well as a safety guidelines.
