National Indigenous People’s Day

National Indigenous People’s Day is June 21st! On this day, we recognize and celebrate the beautiful culture, pride and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Canada.

In 1982, the National Indian Brotherhood (now the Assembly of First Nations) called for the creation of a National Aboriginal Solidarity Day to be celebrated on June 21st. A little more than a decade later, in 1995, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples recommended that a National First Peoples Day be designated. It was in 1996, that the first National Aboriginal Day was celebrated.

There will be many events in the area for Indigenous Day. Bring your family and friends out to help celebrate and share in the culture. Join us in celebrating!

CFNR will be Live on-location in Dease Lake, Prince Rupert, Burns Lake and Terrace.

Thanks to listeners for submitting their photos from the National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations in their community
