As the National Inquiry in to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls concludes its Truth Gathering Process this week, commissioners have begun preparing for the move to the recommendation phase.
Launched in 2017, the Truth Gathering Process is set to wrap up its third phase in Ottawa this Friday following a week of final submissions.
Across the three phase process, the Inquiry heard stories of trauma and devastation from more than 14 hundred individuals from all walks of life, and gathered more than 100 testimonies.
These testimonies spanned uncountable themes from racism and human rights, to government services and the criminal justice system, to sexual exploitation.
After final submissions wrap up this Friday, commissioners will begin the extensive process of preparing recommendations for their final report, set to be submitted to the Federal Government by April of next year.
