Safe transportation along the Highway of Tears was once again front and centre in the BC Legislature today.
NDP Skeena MLA Robin Austin says documents it has obtained show that the BC government’s consultation with communities along the Highway 16 corridor left out those most in need of safe transportation.
Transportation Minister Todd Stone says the government continues to engage with First Nations leaders on a number of issues up and down the Highway 16 corridor.
The NDP says poverty is one of the most significant factors behind people hitch-hiking along Highway 16 and questioned the government’s plan to provide driver education to people in the area.
Stone says a shuttle bus along the route is not practical.
