The NDP Government introduced a new bill today that will help first responders seeking help of their own.
Bill 9, which would help first responders suffering from traumatic stress related illnesses find help easier, has already been lauded by the BC Federation of Labour.
The Federation calls it a “compassionate response” to first responders who work in incredibly traumatic and stressful environments.
The bill ammends the Workers’ Compensation Act by presuming that first responders who suffer from traumatic illnesses do so because of their line of work.
This means that workers will no longer have to prove the cause of their illness.
