NDP MLA Melanie Mark says it’s good to be home at Special Chiefs Assembly

NDP MLA Melanie Mark was in attendance at the Special Chiefs Assembly of the BC Assembly of First Nations in Laxgalts’ap.

Mark, who is part Nisga’a says it’s an honour to be back in her home village so soon after being elected.

Mark was there with Robin Austin, the NDP MLA for the Skeena riding, where Laxgalts’ap is located.

She says she isn’t surprised that there were no provincial Liberal party members attending the assembly.

Mark says she’ll be taking a lot of the ideas and issue brought up in the assembly back to the NDP caucus.

Melanie Mark made history last month when she won a by-election becoming the first Aboriginal woman elected to the BC legislature.
