Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP candidate Nathan Cullen says proponents of an LNG project on the North Coast need to address safety concerns raised in a newspaper report.
The Vancouver Sun obtained a 2013 internal audit of Malaysian-owned Petronas that revealed potentially catastrophic safety concerns with the energy giant’s offshore operations in Malaysia.
Petronas has a majority stake in the proposed Pacific Northwest LNG project near Prince Rupert.
Cullen says the report doesn’t inspire confidence, especially given the state of National Energy Board’s review process for major projects.
Cullen wants a complete review of how the National Energy Board examines major projects in Canada.
He says members of the NEB are former employees of the very industry they’re supposed to be regulating.
