The Opposition New Democrats’ natural-gas critic says it appears B.C. is about to protect the company behind the province’s first liquefied-natural-gas deal from tax hikes for the next 25 years.
Finance Minister Mike de Jong said yesterday he plans to introduce the 25-year deal with Petronas-backed Pacific NorthWest LNG in the legislature next week.
New Democrat Bruce Ralston says he’s also concerned the company has until the next provincial election in 2017 to make its final decision on giving the project the green light.
Ralston says that may be good for the company but it’s not necessarily good for taxpayers.
