The BC New Democrats say documents released by the provincial government contradict what the Liberals have been saying about providing safe transportation along the Highway of Tears.
NDP Women’s Spokesperson Maurine Karagianis says the province has indicated that people don’t want enhanced transportation or don’t think it’s practical.
But Karagianis says the notes released after a scathing report from the privacy commissioner contradict those claims.
Transportation minister Todd Stone accused the NDP of playing politics with the issue and asserted that the province has been making progress on Highway 16 safety.
North Coast NDP MLA Jennifer Rice says the only thing the Liberals have done in the three years since the Missing Women’s Commission recommended safe transportation along Highway 16 is to create a website that shows just how few options there are.
