Paper Excellence Canada has announced the acquisition of three Catalyst Paper facilities in BC, effectively securing jobs for more than 15 hundred forestry workers in the province.
The acquisition comes following months of reviews and efforts by the government amidst tariff disputes with the United States.
In July, the provincial government announced regulatory changes to protect the pensions of Catalyst employees, should the disputes force the company in to drastic cuts.
Catalyst Paper produces more than 1.3 million tonnes of pulp and paper products for a number of industries across BC each year.
The company contributes roughly 2 billion dollars to the provincial economy annually.
