The Northern Haida Gwaii Health Committee met for the first time yesterday.
The committee will work as an advocate for the health needs for those living in the three communities on the northern part of the the islands.
Masset Mayor Andrew Merilees says while Northern Health is aware of the unique issues and challenges of providing healthcare in remote and isolated communities, having a local voice is helpful.
Committee members are municipal officials from the communities of Masset, Old Massett, and Port Clements.
They’ll be holding a community meeting on September 17th at 7pm in Masset at Howard Phillips Community Hall to hear comments and concerns from the public.
