A vital piece of northwest BC infrastructure will be replaced.
The Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) and the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS) will fund a new dock for Telegraph Creek.
The dock on the Stikine River, built in 1983, has long surpassed its lifespan and is now in a state of disrepair.
Tahltan Band Chief Rick McLean says the dock is critical to commercial fishing and tourism activities for visitors and members of the Tahltan Nation.
The NDIT is providing $214,000, the RDKS $92,450, while the Tahltan Band is providing lock blocks for the retaining wall of the dock.
Construction is scheduled to begin immediately with preliminary engineering. The dock will be built off-site, then put into place during a window of least risk to local fish and fish habitat, when the river is at its lowest.
