Seniors and those with disabilities will be the biggest beneficiaries of legislation introduced today which aims to improve working conditions for health sector employees.
Under the proposed Health Sector Statutes Repeal Act, two existing acts, the Health and Social Services Delivery Improvement Act, and the Health Sector Partnerships Agreement Act, would be removed.
By removing these two acts in their entirety, the proposed legislation would restore successorship and common employer protections for health care aides.
This will improve job security, and remove uncertain employment conditions, allowing the province to recruit and retain health care professionals.
In turn, this will lead to improved care for patients with disabilities and seniors in need of additional assistance.
