New legislation introduced today aims to revitalize and modernize the environmental assessment process for major resource projects.
Increased public engagement, Indigenous involvement, and the strengthening of environmental protections are the keys to the new design of the process.
As part of the Confidence and Supply Agreement, the new process is a shared priority between the province and the Green Party caucus which aims to deliver timely, evidence-based decisions which the public can actively participate in.
On top of that, if passed, the legislation will provide: clarity to ptoject proponents, comment periods and collaborations with residents, strengthened compliance and enforcement, and bilateral meetings and regional workshops with Indigenous peoples.
