Just days after the long awaited announcement of a new hospital, residents of the Fort St James area are getting more improvements to health care.
Thanks to a partnership between First Nations in the area, and the Fort St James Primary Care Society, Northern Health will be contracting two new full-time physicians.
Minister of Health Adrian Dix made the announcement at a conference in Fort St James.
The new physicians will have a focus on support and outreach services to surrounding First Nations communities.
Funding for the new physicians, which will focus on day-to-day primary care, comes from the Ministry of Health’s Alternative Payments Program.
There are now eight general practitioners contracted by the program in the Fort St James area.
The new physicians will begin work on November 1st.
