The new Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii Hospital is still under construction, but staff have already put some of the facility’s new equipment to use.
Northern Health says it bumped up the order date of a new portable x-ray machine after the existing unit started to malfunction.
The new machine was put into service last month and has allowed patients to get certain x-rays in their rooms instead of moving to another room.
Officials say the majority of the new hospital’s equipment will been put in storage until it is time to install.
Northern Health says the majority of first floor work on the new $50 million-dollar hospital is complete with construction now underway on the interior of the second floor.
The hospital is expected to open sometime later this year.
