It’s been a long haul for the Snow Valley Nordics Ski Club, but after four years of fund-raising, the group now has possession of a new grooming machine.
Club President Dan McElheron says the Bombardier-made machine is actually a refurbished 2013 model, but says it will offer a great improvement to cross country skiers making use of the Onion Lake ski trails between Terrace and Kitimat.
McElheron says the club’s previous snow grooming machine was in desperate need of a reliable replacement.
The club was still about $30,000 short of its funding goal over the summer, but fundraising initiatives, financial help from the District of Kitimat, and the sale of the old groomer helped them cover the final tally $291,000.
McElheron says the new groomer will extend the viability of the ski trails for the better part of a generation or more.
