A new species of glass sponge has been discovered by experts at the Royal BC Museum.
Professor Henry Reiswig describes the sponge.
He says he knew it was a new species immediately.
The new sponge is found 180 kilometres off the coast of Haida Gwaii, in a protected area called the Bowie seamount.
It’s an area where scientists are still making new discoveries as it’s ecology isn’t very well known.
Since Reiswig discovered the new species, he also gets to name it.
Reiswig says researchers will continue to explore the area in hopes of making more discoveries.
