Wildfire Management Branch crews are battling a fire 25 kilometres west of Iskut.
Officials say the new fire start near Kakiddi Creek covers approximately 12 hectares.
Cooler and wetter conditions in the forecast are expected to help the 23 firefighters and one helicopter attacking the flames.
Fire officials say they’re been no significant growth on the other four fires in the Northwest Fire Centre area and no structures are threatened:
• The King Salmon River Basin fire has burned 221 hectares within the Taku River/T’akú Téix’ Conservancy, 90 kilometres southeast of Atlin.
• The Langhorse Mountain fire has burned 2,000 hectares in the headwaters of the Nakina River, approximately 70 kilometres southeast of Atlin.
• The Inklin River fire has burned an estimated 512 hectares about 90 kilometres southeast of Atlin.
• The Red River fire, about 30 kilometres northeast of Boya Lake Provincial Park, has burned 285 hectares within the Ne’āh Conservancy.
The Wildfire Management Branch says smoke may be visible in northwest communities due to fires burning in Yukon.
