Unless there’s a last-minute change of heart from the federal government, nightly closures of the Canada-U.S. border between Stewart, B.C. and Hyder, Alaska will begin tomorrow.
The Canada Border Services Agency will close the crossing between the two communities for 8 hours each day in what some have said is a cost-savings measure.
Skeena Bulkley Valley NDP MP Nathan Cullen spoke with Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney in the House of Commons today to make the case for keeping the border open 24 hours a day.
Cullen says the nightly closure will have deep impacts on jobs and public safety.
